The Human Project Screening

  • Maynooth Music Academy

Common Grounds Collective artist, Stanlæy's most recent project, The Human Project, will be screened Maynooth Music Academy on the 1st of July 2017. Screening begins at 16:00.

The Human Project is a multi-faceted audio-visual project exploring the body as a medium of expression. There have been over 50 musicians, artists, actors/actresses, videographers and helpers involved in bringing this project to reality. The project began in late 2016, when Stanlaey's fascination in videography and story telling began to grow more intense alongside her current studies within embodiment, and dualisms.

The project embodies 7 elements, within 7 songs and videos where each song comes to personify an element in a unique and distinct way. The Human Project will take you through 7 hues, revealing the body as a canvas to represent natural elements as a metaphor for cognitive states of mind.

This is a free event, however we encourage people to arrive on time to ensure they get a spot.  We are very excited that Stanlæy will be around at the screening to chat about the film and answer questions.

ALL RESERVATIONS FOR THIS EVENT ARE NOW TAKEN!

Common Grounds Collective would like to invite you all to yet another spectacular evening of art and expression in the intimacy of a living room packed full of artists, poets, musicians and friendly folk. This is the ninth edition of this beloved series and will be the last Home is Where the Art is before the New Year greets us

On the night we have the pleasure of having presentations from:

Lia Wright - Lia is a visual artist based in Dublin. Her work spans a broad range of mediums, from illustration to painting and street art. Lias paintings make clever use of colour, shifting natural scenes to the ethereal with vibrancy and sharp contrasting lines. We were incredibly lucky to have Lia paint live for us at Open Canvas where her painting was auctioned off at the end of the night, with all proceeds going to Art Refuge UK and we simply can't wait to hear more from one of the most exceptionally talented artists on the scene right now.

Dan Whelan - Dan will be supplying our musical focus to the night. Having played all across the country in groups like "Na Tonnta", Daniel has developed a unique approach to Irish traditional music and offers a lively and fresh perspective on the blending of old and new. Dan will be treating us to some of his original blues influenced compositions and songs combined with his classical guitar techniques.

Fionn Brennan - Fionn will be guiding us through the world of coffee, from sourcing beans, to roasting them and making coffee in the home enviornment. The word "experienced" does him little justice, as Fionn is nothing short of a coffee guru. Having opened up "Brewery Coffee" in 2015, Fionn, along with Jack Corrigan and others has been supplying Maynooth with speciality coffee that never falls short of perfection. We are absolutely thrilled to have Fionn presenting at this event as he and the Brewery have done so much to help Common Grounds from the early days right up to the present. Expect plenty of laughs, and even more know how to be dished out.

Open Canvas: a night in aid of Art Refuge UK

Common Grounds Collective presents:
| Open Canvas: A Night In Aid of Art Refuge UK |

On November 29th in Whelan's, Dublin, we are organising a very special, interactive event: 'Open Canvas' in aid of Art Refuge UK.

ArtRefuge are a charity who work alongside Medicins Sans Frontiers, organising art therapy workshops in Refugee camps across the world. Most recently, they have been providing crucial psychological support to people affected by the urgent refugee crisis in Northern France, Nepal and the UK.

Throughout the night, the room will become an 'open canvas', that is, a welcoming artistic space where both you, the audience and performers alike will be invited to create messages of solidarity for the displaced people of the current refugee crisis, through the mediums of art, craft, written word and video.
There will be art stations placed throughout the venue, where the messages will be collected and sent where they are most appreciated.

We are delighted to confirm these fantastic artists who will be performing throughout the night:

Angelic traditional harpist Alannah Thornburgh
Eclectic folk duo Andrew Jackson & Cillian McCabe of Élan
The sumptuous harmonies of LemonCello
The groovy genre melting pot that is Hatchlings
And, Galway based rock/pop group Rofi James who have recently released a video (see below) highlighting the struggle faced by people who have been forced to leave their home countries because of conflict.

Poets Aaron Nolan and Alice Kinsella wlll stir with their respective unique styles of poetry at intervals during the night.

Now for the fun part. Towards the end of the night, the musicians will collaborate with artists and dancers who will be enriching the performance with live painting, and interpretive dance. The live paintings created on the night will then be auctioned off, with all proceeds going to Art Refuge UK, giving you the chance to support a great cause while also aquiring a beautiful piece of art to take home with you!

Live painting and Art works provided on the night by:
Rebecca Deegan - Artist
Karen Garvin-Kane
and
LW Art
with more to be announced!

Dancing on the night performed by Carolyn Ingram.

Support a wonderful cause and experience an unbelievable night of talent!
If for any reason you cannot make the event, donations can be made here which will go to ArtRefugeUK
